Handing over of refurbished child X-Ray unit- Dept of Child Health, KBTH, Accra

Today, we gather to mark a momentous occasion, one that signifies hope, progress, and a deep commitment to the health and well-being of our children. On behalf of the Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan (ZCAM), I am honoured and delighted to present this refurbished x-ray unit to the Department of Child Health of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH)

This work started in March 2024 and ended in July 2024.

The mission of Zonta International and ZCAM is to advance the status of women and children globally, and it is in that spirit that we have worked tirelessly to embark on this vital initiative which started under the leadership of my predecessor Zontian Lauretta Aryeetey.

A visit to the facility by Z Adodo Adih-Nuviadenu (Project Coordinator) and Z Susan Adu- Aryee (Chair, Projects) of ZCAM revealed the urgent need for changing of door frames, doors, skirtings and architraves. There was the need to connect a completely  new air-condition pipes and electricals connections from the two adjourning nurses stations all the way to the outside of the building in order to connect the out door units and also make it possible for  the two nurses stations to also connect air conditioners easily. The outcome is this child friendly facility being handed over to   KBTH today.

The delivery of this refurbished

x-ray unit during the centenary celebration of KBTH and the 60th anniversary celebration of the Dept of Child health, at a cost of over GHS65,000 is not just a gesture of generosity, but a testament to our shared belief in the power of collaboration and community service.

The importance of timely and accurate medical diagnostics can not be overstated. It is our belief that this must be conducted in a conducive environment for our children and their accompanying parents- mostly mothers. It is our hope that the refurbished x-ray unit will make our children who use the facility feel relaxed and it will also help to alleviate the stress that comes with managing children when they are unwell.

This accomplishment would not have been possible without the dedication and support of ZCAM members and our partners Klicks Africa Foundation who provided GHS20,000 for the purchase of air conditioners and refrigerators; andThankful Hearts Community Projects who provided GHS15,000 towards the project.

Your unwavering commitment and tireless efforts have brought us to this point, and for that, we extend our heartfelt gratitude.

We are also grateful to New Horizon Special School, Haven International School, and for providing artwork by children from your institutions, that was used for the murals on the walls of the x-ray unit. We are indeed grateful to you all.

It is through such collective action that we can create meaningful change.

As we hand over this refurbished x-ray unit, let us remember that our work does not end here. It is our ongoing mission to continue supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for those in need, particularly women and children who are the most vulnerable in society. Let us also take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to advancing the health and well-being of our children, ensuring that they have every chance to grow, thrive, flourish, and reach their fullest potential.

Thank you all for being here today and for your continued support. Together, we are making a difference.

Thank you.
