Mentor programme at Adjirigano Basic School in Accra

Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan (ZCAM’s) focus  at the Adjirigano Basic School in Accra was on educating the school children on public health and good hygiene practices especially among the females. Interactions with the School authorities revealed that there was a perennial water shortage in the area where the School was located. Therefore, the  Club donated a 750-gallon water tank to serve as a reservoir, as part of the process of promoting personal hygiene.

Mentor programme at Amrahia Basic School in Accra

At the Amrahia Basic School, a sub-urban school, about 8 kilometres from Accra. The Club’s theme for the 2009 -2010 was: ‘Mentor for a better and healthy child’

After our initial visit, where we interacted with the staff and pupils, we felt that the need was in the area of boosting the self-esteem, especially of the girl child as part of the process of encouraging them to study hard and stand up in the face of chal-lenges.

Members of our Club spent a half-day at the School during which we interacted with them. We had a wonderful time with the pupils. We later donated a quantity of books, and identified 10 needy girls from among the pupils who we provided school uniforms.
