ZCAM collaborates with Girls’ Education Unit (GEU), Ministry of Education to celebrate the International Day of the Girl.
On 9th October, 2025, the Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan (ZCAM), represented by the President, Mrs Dorothy Tackie, the Secretary, Mrs Cynthia Essibrey-Annan and the Chairperson for Projects, Mrs Susan Adu-Aryee paid a visit to the Director of the Girls’ Education Unit, GES, Mrs Gifty Asiedu and her team to present 40 copies of the book “Baysiaba” written by a Zontian, Ewurabena Adole Andah. The book, which has been accepted by GES as a supplementary reading material in basic schools. narrates short stories on the vulnerability of girls and raises relevant discussions and solutions through reflections. Mrs Asiedu thanked ZCAM and called for further collaboration to work on different aspects of girls’ vulnerabilities, especially how to prevent early pregnancies and how to remove barriers to the re-entry program.
ZCAM made a request for the books to be placed in libraries for more young people, especially, girls to have access to them.
ZCAM also contributed funds for water for an outreach event scheduled for 16th October, by GEU at the Diaspora Girls’ College at Nsawam to commemorate the International Day of the Girl.
On 9th October 2025, the Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan (ZCAM), represented by its President, Mrs. Dorothy Tackie, the Secretary, Mrs. Cynthia Essibrey-Annan, and the Chairperson for Projects, Mrs. Susan Adu-Aryee, paid a courtesy call to the Director of the Girls’ Education Unit (GEU) of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mrs. Gifty Asiedu, and her team. The purpose of the visit was to present 40 copies of the book “Baysiaba”, authored by Zontian Ewurabena Adole Andah.
The book, which has been approved by GES as a supplementary reader for basic schools, comprises short stories that highlight the vulnerabilities of girls and encourages meaningful discussions and reflections aimed at identifying solutions. Mrs. Asiedu expressed gratitude to ZCAM for the gesture and called for further collaboration, particularly in addressing key areas of girls’ vulnerabilities, such as preventing early pregnancies and removing barriers to the re-entry programme.
ZCAM also requested that the books be placed in school libraries to ensure wider access for young people, especially girls. In addition, the Club contributed funds for the provision of water at an outreach event organised by the GEU and scheduled for 16th October at the Diaspora Girls’ College, Nsawam, to commemorate the International Day of the Girl.
