Zonta Club

History and Establishment

Zonta International is a service club (www.zonta.org) that addresses issues of women and children through service(projects) and advocacy. This international service organization was formed over 100 years ago in Buffalo, New York. The organization is made up of professional women who have dedicated their time and resources to ensure that women’s issues are addressed to enable every woman to attain her full potential.

Zonta Club of Accra Metropolitan grew out of the desire to see young professional women come together to work towards advancing the status of women. Zontians invited individuals from various professional areas in other Clubs to join Zonta. Following a series of orientations and mentoring by existing Zonta Clubs in Ghana, the idea to form a new Club began. Members attended various orientation meetings to acquaint themselves with the Zonta Bye-Laws, history, and other interesting projects in which Zonta Clubs in Ghana had been involved. It was an exciting time when seasoned Zontians, Barbara Baeta, Miranda Green Street, Alberta Quartey, and Vicky Adomakoh always made themselves available to share their invaluable experiences.
